Post 2: One page that stood out to me in Lawrence in Arabia was page 23. This is the page where T.E. Lawrence announces his tour of Syria on foot. Lawrence explains his impossible proposal to Hogarth where he is met with much doubt. Hogarth explains how at his age, and being European how dangerous this expedition is. Especially during the deadly hot summer months. Lawrence met his concern and disapproval with the stern words, ‘I’m going.” Hogarth then offers that he will need a guide and Servants to carry his bags where he states that he is going to walk. This only confused Hogarth even more as Europeans “don’t walk in Syria.” Lawrence responded to this with a simple “well I do.” Hogarth startled by his determination then advised him to see the counsel of true expert for advice. I found this passage so interesting because it really showed me just how determined Lawrence was. Even thought the odds were stacked against him he could care less, he just wanted to complete his journey. He was will to risk the ultimate sacrifice of death to explore this region.
