Final Week post 1

In this chapter Atta goes on Hajj. Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. This is very significant for any Islamic male as it is a mandatory religious duty for all of them. Hajj is considered the “house of Allah” so once in every Muslims adult life they must go to the sacred city of Mecca over a 5-6 day period. This is one of the 5 pillars of Islam. Kaaba is a building in the center of the most important Mosque in the world the great Mosque of Mecca. Source: http://www.religionfacts.com/hajj

Pilgrimages are also very relevant in the Christian religion. One very important religion in Christianity is the walk of the Via Dolorosa. This is the walk that Jesus did while he held the cross to his crucifixion. These two pilgrimages are both very comparable as they are important pilgrimages for both their religions. They are both walking in sacred areas in order to reflect on themselves and their religion.

I think overall the author is telling us of all these experiences to give us knowledge on Islam but also show how important Islam is for billions of people. It also was cool to compare the pilgrimages of other religions to again see how similar Christianity and Islam really is.
